Inspiring little girls to fall in love with physical activity

Outdoor games and activities are the most fun and natural way for children to develop and improve their gross motor skills. Running, jumping, dancing, kicking, throwing and catching are all great ways to encourage muscles to work together. But it is not only the body that is profiting from physical activity. As John F. Kenned once said, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body. It is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity”.

Girls are fast and strong too

As a consequence of our modern lifestyle, children are not moving enough in order to maintain healthy growth and development. We experience a global inactivity crisis among children, and within this crisis there is a gender gap to the disadvantage of girls – in many cultures, girls are simply not sufficiently encouraged to be active. The way sport is promoted and popularized, means it often appeals more to boys than to girls, leaving girls feeling unaddressed. For girls to realize their full potential, they need to be more physically active. The best thing we as adults can do is to ensure girls get every opportunity to move and play outside, to try new things, and to develop a love for movement. Active girls are not only healthier and happier, but are also better off cognitively, socially and emotionally.

Small, girls-only groups

While mixed groups can be fun, it is no secret that boys typically engage in more physically aggressive and impulsive play, which often creates a degree of discomfort among many girls. In a single-sex environment, girls tend to be more confident, believe more in their own abilities, and are more likely to take over leadership positions. The concept of the course is to create an environment in which all girls feel comfortable and can fully express their superpowers.
